The FlockYou M5 Atom Lite Detector is a compact, privacy-focused wireless awareness tool built on the M5Stack Atom Lite ESP32 platform and preloaded with FlockYou-style WiFi detection firmware.

Designed for researchers, privacy advocates, and people who want better awareness of surveillance infrastructure in their area, this device passively monitors nearby 2.4 GHz WiFi activity for known Flock Safety camera signatures. The onboard RGB NeoPixel indicator gives you a clear visual status at a glance — no screen, phone app, or laptop required.

This is a lightweight, plug-and-go detector for passive awareness, not a jammer, bypass tool, or network intrusion device. It does not connect to protected networks, authenticate to any access point, interfere with cameras, or transmit disruptive traffic.

The firmware is based on open-source FlockYou research and tooling from Colonel Panic and the public colonelpanichacks/flock-you GitHub project.

Hardware Details

This unit is based on the M5Stack Atom Lite ESP32 IoT Development Kit, featuring:

How to Use

For basic standalone use, plug the device into a USB-C power source such as a wall adapter, power bank, laptop, or vehicle USB adapter. Once powered on, the LED will sweep through a rainbow color cycle to confirm startup, then settle to solid green indicating the device is actively scanning.

When a suspected Flock Safety camera signature is detected, the onboard RGB LED will flash red as a simple visual alert, then return to green.

For best results:

• Place the device where it has a clear view of nearby wireless signals
• Avoid burying it inside metal enclosures, glove boxes, or heavily shielded areas
• Use it while walking, driving, or surveying an area where ALPR or surveillance camera presence is being researched
• Treat detections as indicators, not absolute proof
• Confirm findings with additional research, public records, visual observation, or mapping tools where appropriate

Detection range and reliability can vary based on distance, antenna orientation, building materials, vehicle placement, local WiFi congestion, and how the nearby camera hardware is configured.

Using with the FlockYou Dashboard / App

The device can also be used with the FlockYou dashboard where supported by the installed firmware configuration.

To use it with the dashboard:

1. Connect the device to a computer using USB-C.
2. Install the FlockYou dashboard requirements from the public GitHub project.
3. Launch the dashboard software from the api folder.
4. Open the local dashboard in your browser.
5. Select the serial port for the connected device.
6. Detections should appear live in the dashboard when the device observes matching WiFi signatures.

The public FlockYou repository includes dashboard tooling that can ingest detection events over USB serial and display detections in a local web interface.

Where supported, the dashboard may allow advanced workflows such as live detection review, GPS-assisted wardriving, event logging, and exporting detection data. These features may require additional setup, a computer or phone browser, location permissions, or a separate GPS source depending on the dashboard configuration.
